• God helped him before

2. A Warning to the Proud (Verses 2–3)

David turns to those opposing him—people who mock or spread lies.

He challenges them:

• Why are you chasing empty things?
• Why live in falsehood?

Then he declares:

God has set apart the godly for Himself.

Key truth:
If you belong to God, you are chosen and known, even if others reject you.

3. Right Response to Anger (Verses 4–5)

David gives wise instruction:

• “Be angry, but do not sin”
• Reflect quietly in your heart
• Trust in God
• Offer what is right

Key truth:
It’s not wrong to feel anger—but it is wrong to let anger control you.
God calls for self-control and trust.

4. True Joy Comes from God (Verses 6–7)

People around him are saying:

“Who will show us any good?”

David answers:

• Real joy is not found in circumstances
• It comes from God’s presence

He says God gives more joy than:

• Harvest
• Wealth
• Prosperity

Key truth:
God’s joy is deeper than anything this world can offer.

5. Peace in the Middle of Trouble (Verse 8)

The Psalm ends beautifully:

“I will lie down and sleep in peace…”

Even with problems still around him, David:

• Rests
• Sleeps
• Trusts God completely

Key truth:
Peace is not the absence of trouble—
it is the presence of trust in God.
