When GOD Calls

Messenger Needed – Isaiah 6–8

A Heavenly Call

Someone once said there are three types of communication: the telegraph, the telephone… and “tell a woman.”
But truth be told, that’s not really fair—because men can be just as guilty, if not worse, when it comes to careless words.

This brings us to a deeper question:
Have you ever been in that place with God where He speaks directly to your heart?

Young Samuel knew that place well when he said:
“Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.”
Moses experienced it too—speaking with God face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.
And on the mount of transfiguration, when the disciples saw Moses and Elijah, they wanted to build something to honour the moment. But the voice from heaven interrupted:

“This is My beloved Son… hear Him.”
In other words—listen to Jesus.

When the Problem Is Closer Than We Think

So often we come to God telling Him what the problem is…
Yet rarely do we stop and consider:

What if we are the problem?

Isaiah was a prophet—a man used by God, delivering His Word to Jerusalem and Judah:
“Come now, let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow.”

He carried a true message…
Yet he did not realise something about himself.

When Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up, everything changed.
Suddenly he cried:

“Woe is me! for I am undone… I am a man of unclean lips.”

Unclean lips revealed an unclean life.

Isaiah lived what many would call a good life—
yet in the presence of God’s holiness, even the smallest impurity became visible.

It is easy to think:
“If I were around different people, I would be different.”
But God does not deal with environments first—
He deals with the heart.

Grace Before the Call

God had already prepared the cleansing.

A coal from the altar touched Isaiah’s lips, and his sin was taken away.
Just as today, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

Before God sends a messenger—
He first makes the messenger clean.

And this is important:

No matter your gift—
whether preaching, helping, teaching, wisdom, or encouragement—
at your very best, you are still a sinner saved by grace.

God is not only interested in your gift…
He is interested in your heart.

He calls us not only to serve, but to forgive, to give, and to love—
as we see in Matthew 25.

The Call of God

Once Isaiah was cleansed, he began to hear something he had never truly heard before:

“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

This was not just a question—
it was a divine call.

Who can be trusted?
Who will carry My message?
Who will go?

Isaiah, now broken, cleansed, and aware of God’s holiness, responded:

“Here am I; send me.”

A Message for Today

This was a rude awakening for Isaiah—
but a necessary one.

He saw the King in His glory…
and saw himself as he truly was.

And yet, God did not cast him aside—
He called him.

GOD’S MESSAGE FOR HIS MESSENGER

Before God uses you, He will humble you.
Before He sends you, He will cleanse you.
Before you speak for Him, He will speak to you.

The question still echoes today:

Who will go?

And heaven still waits for the same answer:

“Here am I, Lord… send me.”
