The Butter Milk Christian

The Butter Milk Christian

You Still Have a Purpose

I remember hearing it said that something can still be good for you, even if it doesnโ€™t taste pleasant.
Take buttermilk, for example.

As a child, we would have it on the seventh day of the week. Yet, to be honest, it wasnโ€™t enjoyable. It tasted sourโ€”far from the sweetness of fresh milk. In fact, it almost felt like it wished it could simply be milk.

But buttermilk was not thrown away.
It was what remainedโ€”what others might consider leftovers.
And yet, it still had a purpose.

Even its bottle looked different. It had a distinct top so you could tell it apart from regular milk. You didnโ€™t need to look twiceโ€”it stood out.

When the Lord first gave me this thought, I wondered if it spoke of something lesserโ€”perhaps a second-class Christian.
But that is not the case at all.

In this life, every child of God has a purpose.

Some of us may be like that buttermilk.
We may not come across as โ€œsweet.โ€
We may feel different, even overlooked.

Yet the Lord made us allโ€”whether gold, silver, or common clay.
And though some are not used as often, they can be just as preciousโ€”sometimes even more so.

Buttermilk was not like milk, yet it was still valued in the home.
It was differentโ€”but it was special.

And so are you.

You may be different, but the Lord loves you just the same.
If you have asked Christ into your heart as Lord and Saviour, you are His childโ€”you belong to His family:

โ€œBut as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God.โ€ (John 1:12)

Just as milk can be used to make many thingsโ€”cheese, butter, ice creamโ€”
God also has many purposes for His people.

Your life is not without meaning.

Consider Abraham.
At ninety years of age, God told him to walk before Him and be perfect.
By human standards, he may have seemed past his โ€œsell-by date.โ€

But not to the Almighty.

Never to God.

So seek the Lord.
Ask Him to reveal His plan and purpose for your life.

That the Lord of Glory may shine through you,
and that you may be a blessing to the body of Christ.
