THE I MUST BEND

โ€œFrom I to Cโ€ Fictional Story

There was once a man named Thomas who lived his whole life centred on one thingโ€”himself.

Every decision began with โ€œI.โ€
I wantโ€ฆ I thinkโ€ฆ I deserveโ€ฆ I will.

He was not a bad man by the worldโ€™s standards. He worked hard, spoke kindly when it suited him, and kept himself from trouble. But deep down, there was a quiet emptiness he could not explain.

One evening, as he walked past a small chapel, he heard a voice from within reading the Scriptures:

โ€œNo longer I that lives, but Christ that lives in me.โ€ โ€” Galatians 2:20

Those words struck him like a hammer to the heart.

No longer Iโ€ฆ?

He stopped at the door.

Inside, a preacher spoke gently:
โ€œTo come to Christ, the โ€˜Iโ€™ must bend. And when the โ€˜Iโ€™ bends, it becomes a โ€˜Cโ€™โ€”for Christ must take the centre.โ€

Thomas stood frozen.
All his life had been built on that one letterโ€”I.

That night, he went home restless. He sat at the table, staring at a piece of paper. Slowly, he wrote a large letter:

I

He looked at it for a long time.

โ€œThis is me,โ€ he whispered. โ€œStraightโ€ฆ proudโ€ฆ unbending.โ€

Then something stirred within him. With trembling hands, he bent the top of the letter, curving it inward.

Now it looked like this:

C

Tears filled his eyes.

โ€œTo come to Christโ€ฆ I must bend.โ€

For the first time in his life, Thomas knelt.

Not in routine.
Not in religion.
But in surrender.

โ€œLordโ€ฆ no longer Iโ€ฆ but You.โ€

And in that quiet moment, something changed.

The burden he carried lifted.
The emptiness was filled.
The striving ceased.

He rose from his kneesโ€”but he was not the same man.

Where once there was I, now there was Christ.

From that day on, his words began to change:

Not โ€œI will,โ€ but โ€œIf the Lord wills.โ€
Not โ€œI deserve,โ€ but โ€œThank You, Lord.โ€
Not โ€œI live,โ€ but โ€œChrist lives in me.โ€

And those who knew him noticed something differentโ€”not perfection, but peaceโ€ฆ not pride, but humilityโ€ฆ not self, but a quiet shining of Christ.

For Thomas had learned the great secret:

The โ€œIโ€ must bendโ€ฆ
before Christ can begin.
