Two Roads Matthew 7:14-14
Sweet Sixteen to Glory
(By George’s Testimony)
At sixteen years, so young, so small,
I heard the Saviour’s gentle call,
They called it sweet, that tender age,
But God was writing on my page.
Now fifty years have passed me by,
Yet sweeter still, my Lord draws nigh,
Through every day, through joy and pain,
His love has been my constant gain.
I did not walk the reckless way,
No drink, no smoke, no wild display,
No troubled path, no lawless road,
I lived a life that seemed quite good.
I watched a man I loved so dear,
Brought low by smoke through many a year,
And from that sight I turned away,
Not knowing yet I still would stray.
For though I walked a careful line,
And tried to keep my life so fine,
I stood, though clean in outward view,
Still lost… as many “good” ones do.
Like one who scores just forty-nine,
So near the mark, yet short the line,
For God requires a perfect way,
And none can reach it, come what may.
“For all have sinned,” the Word declares,
No soul escapes, no heart is spared,
The standard high, too great to climb,
No work of man can cross that line.
So God in love, so rich, so free,
Sent down His Son for you and me,
On Calvary’s cross, the price was paid,
A perfect path for all was made.
Not bought with gold, nor earned by might,
Nor climbing mountains in our sight,
But freely given—grace so true,
A gift of love for me and you.
He will not force, He leaves the choice,
To hear, receive, or still the voice,
“I am the way,” the Saviour said,
The living path where we are led.
So I repented, bowed my knee,
And Jesus came and rescued me,
No longer lost, no more alone,
Now by His grace I’m brought back home.
O friend, today, why linger still?
Why stand outside His loving will?
The door is open—enter in,
Be born again, be cleansed from sin.
For whosoever calls His name,
Will never turn away in shame,
From sixteen years till glory’s door,
He’s sweeter now… and evermore.
