🌱 1. The Purpose of Proverbs (Verses 1–6)

This chapter begins by telling us the purpose of these teachings, written by Solomon.

Key idea:

👉 To give wisdom, instruction, understanding, and guidance.

• It helps the simple become wise
• It helps the young gain knowledge
• Even the wise can grow wiser

📌 In short: God wants everyone—young or old—to grow in wisdom.

🙏 2. The Foundation of Wisdom (Verse 7)

This is one of the most important verses in the Bible:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…”

What does that mean?

• “Fear” here means reverence, respect, and honour for God
• True wisdom starts when we put God first

👉 Without God, knowledge can become empty or even dangerous.

👨‍👩‍👦 3. A Father’s Warning (Verses 8–19)

Here we see a loving father speaking to his son:

Main warning:

👉 Do not follow sinners or be drawn into evil.

Example given:

• People may invite you to join in wrongdoing (violence, stealing, selfish gain)
• They make it sound exciting or profitable

But God says:

• Their path leads to destruction
• They are really trapping themselves

📌 Lesson:

Bad company and sinful choices may look good at first—but they lead to ruin.

📣 4. Wisdom Calls Out (Verses 20–33)

This is a powerful picture:

👉 Wisdom is described like a person crying out in the streets, trying to get people’s attention.

She says:

• “Turn at my warning!”
• “I will pour out my spirit to you”

But many people:

• Ignore wisdom
• Reject correction
• Choose their own way

⚖️ The Result:

• Those who ignore wisdom will face trouble
• When trouble comes, they will cry out—but it will be too late

🌿 The Promise:

“But whoever listens to me will dwell safely and be secure.”

🔥 The Big Message of Proverbs 1

• Wisdom is available to everyone
• It begins with respecting God
• Sin may look appealing, but it leads to destruction
• Ignoring God’s wisdom has serious consequences
• Listening to God brings peace and safety

✝️ Simple Application

👉 “Listen to Me now, before life teaches you the hard way.”

• Stay close to God
• Be careful who you listen to
• Choose wisdom over temptation
• Respond when God speaks—not later
