THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (KJV)
We have all heard the wonderful story of Abraham and Isaac.
God tested Abraham by asking him to offer up Isaac, his beloved son. Abraham obeyed God and went to the place that God had shown him. He built the altar, laid the wood in order, and prepared to offer his son.
But just at the right moment, the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham and stopped him.
“Lay not thine hand upon the lad.” — Genesis 22:12 (KJV)
God had seen Abraham’s faith and obedience. Then Abraham looked and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. God had provided a sacrifice in Isaac’s place.
What wonderful news that must have been for Abraham—and especially for Isaac!
But that Old Testament story also points us toward something far greater: God providing a sacrifice for sinful mankind.
MAN’S FIRST DISOBEDIENCE
Long before Abraham lived, God created the heavens and the earth.
God created everything that lives, and finally He created mankind in His own image.
“Male and female created he them.” — Genesis 1:27 (KJV)
God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They had everything they needed and enjoyed fellowship with their Creator.
But God also gave them a command.
They were not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Sadly, Adam and Eve chose to disobey God.
That act of disobedience brought sin into the human race.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin.” — Romans 5:12 (KJV)
Sin was not a small matter. It separated mankind from a holy God.
Adam made his choice, and every generation since has suffered the consequences of sin.
The Bible tells us:
“There is none righteous, no, not one.” — Romans 3:10 (KJV)
And again:
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way.” — Isaiah 53:6 (KJV)
And perhaps the clearest statement of all:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23 (KJV)
That includes every one of us.
Religion cannot remove our sin.
Good works cannot remove our sin.
Money cannot purchase forgiveness.
Trying to live a better life cannot erase the sins of yesterday.
If the story ended there, mankind would have no hope.
But thank God, the story does not end there!
HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS
Just as God provided a ram to take Isaac’s place, God provided a sacrifice for you and me.
But this time the sacrifice was not a ram.
God gave His Son.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.” — John 3:16 (KJV)
Jesus Christ came into this sinful world. He lived the perfect life that we could never live. He had no sin of His own, yet He willingly went to Calvary.
Upon that cross, Jesus took the punishment that our sins deserved.
Isaiah had prophesied:
“The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” — Isaiah 53:6 (KJV)
Jesus became our substitute.
We were guilty.
He was innocent.
We deserved judgment.
He took our judgment.
We had wandered away from God.
Jesus came to bring us home.
That is why the Gospel is called Good News.
THE CROSS WAS NOT THE END
They took the body of Jesus down from the cross and placed Him in a tomb.
His enemies thought it was over.
The disciples thought their hopes had disappeared.
But on the third day something wonderful happened.
Jesus Christ rose from the dead!
The stone was rolled away, the tomb was empty, and Christ was alive.
“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.” — Matthew 28:6 (KJV)
Christianity is not built around a dead Saviour.
We serve a risen Saviour!
Jesus conquered sin.
Jesus conquered death.
Jesus conquered the grave.
And because He lives, salvation is available today to everyone who will come to Him.
WHAT MUST I DO?
Perhaps you are wondering, How can I be saved?
The Bible gives the answer:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” — Acts 16:31 (KJV)
Salvation is not earned.
It is God’s gift.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith… it is the gift of God: Not of works.” — Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)
Come to Christ just as you are.
Acknowledge that you are a sinner.
Turn to God in repentance.
Put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He accomplished for you upon the cross.
Do not depend upon your church membership, baptism, good works, religious background, or anything else to save you.
Depend upon Jesus Christ alone.
GOD PROVIDED THE SACRIFICE
On Mount Moriah, Abraham said something remarkable to Isaac:
“My son, God will provide himself a lamb.” — Genesis 22:8 (KJV)
God provided for Isaac that day.
Many years later, John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and declared:
“Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” — John 1:29 (KJV)
There is the great message of the Bible.
Man sinned—but God provided a Saviour.
Man wandered—but Jesus came seeking the lost.
Man was guilty—but Christ paid the price.
Man faced death—but Jesus brought eternal life.
My friend, that is why it is called:
THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL
You do not have to die without hope.
You do not have to stand before God depending upon your own goodness.
Jesus has already paid the price.
The question is:
What will you do with Jesus Christ?
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” — Romans 10:13 (KJV)
Today, while God is speaking to your heart, come to Christ.
The sacrifice has been made.
The price has been paid.
The tomb is empty.
Jesus Christ is alive—and salvation is offered to you.
